Hi Jen,

OK, how interested are you in attracting search engines? Even if they come through the google toolbar there is little on your home page for them to index. At your next update I'll put a link to your page from one of my sites. I know the search engines come looking at mine and they'll pick up at least your home page.

At the moment your key words are hand crafted, creations and shopping.

Put some alt txt in your button images as a start describing the target of the links i.e.. Matchbox Amulets, Shawls, Beads. At least to the important ones. The others should also have empty alt tags where the double quotes are next to each other. Leaving a space will apparently create a nasty beep when blind users are scanning your site with a text reader. Empty alts are just ignored.

If you can get those words in the body of your text as well, preferably in a sentence as many search engines give more 'weight' to sentences rather than word fragments. If you use the words for links to the pages then that is even more 'weight'.

Keywords have to start at the very beginning of your pages, your page at the moment has no emphasis. Sitting down and putting together a list of words customers would be using to look for your products, then asking other people what they would look for is really the start of getting a selling web page. Sometimes people surprise you. You then use the phrases in your pages. You then get started on descriptions and keywords in the meta tags.

Talking of customers. You need at least one picture of your products on your home page. A small one that is only 300 or 400 pixels in the largest dimension is fine. A collage where there are a few items, as long as they don't get too big, is also OK. At the moment you are asking them to click through two links to see what you have.

You attract the search engines with words, the customers with words and pictures. If you have questions feel free to ask. I've spent years trying to get as good a ranking as possible with no budget. All these tips are things I've learnt and applied to mine and other sites. I once spent a day going through a site replacing 'pieces' with sculptures, wood sculptures and sculptural pieces for a friend and just that alone boosted her traffic substantially.
