Polymer Clay Sculptures
Sculptures 2002
gourd fairy house I was very lucky to get a varied packet of clay (slightly used) at a bargain price. The clay was slightly old but I managed to get it soft again. This was one of the first things I made. The curtains were made from a mix of tiny scraps. The house is built around a gourd blanced on a plaster of Paris disc with three more discs forming the structure of the steps. |

| I had had these little porcelain figurines for a while (naked) and attempted to dress them but without a pasta machine to roll out the sheets the dresses turned out quite thick. I also didn't have any pearl or translucent clay. The wings in particular I was not happy with. The dress of the pink fairy has snowflake embossing flakes as inclusions. Each of their bases has a mini scene. | |
Sculptures 2003
elven junglegym These little elves have a posable body with fimo heads & hands. Next time I make them they'll have feet as well. I scanned them in on the scanner, the reason for the wierd angle. Their hands are hooks and with the bendable arms and legs they can be repositioned any where on their gourd. |

| Two of the four little girl fairies I made. I used a mould to make the faces. The bodies, arms & legs were quicker to sculpt from scratch. The little girls were for some gourds I made in regard to a query. Here are some examples. I need to find them new homes because I was reusing gourds. | |||

| I then started on mushroom men I had some unsuccessful papermache mushrooms that I transformed. They turned out very organic due to the bumps. The last few photos have a very blurry ruler in the background for scale. | |||

Sculptures End of 2004
End of 2004 I was determined to get some sculpting in. I started with four more mushroom men using up the last of the mushroom caps and then going onto foil armatures. I then repaired and redressed another ceramic doll that had had an accident and was dirty from lying around for a year. |

| I then took a deep breath and started making figures from scratch. How do you like my Christmas elves? Each has been a step and a lesson in itself. | christmas elf |
